Background
Lanuza Bay Development Alliance is an alliance of 7 municipalities, located
in the northern part of the province of Surigao del Sur, binded
together, pursuing a sustainable use of their natural resources,
advocating people's participation in the course of its journey
towards sustainable development and fight against poverty.
In the
year 2000, thru the assistance of Philippine-Canada-Local
Government Support System (PC-LGSP), until June of 2004, the
Alliance have undergone several stages and levels of processes
of capability building including agreements which lead to the
finalization of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP), Manual
of Operation (ManOps) and Uniform Fishery Ordinance (UFO).
Upon
establishment of the Program Management Office on August 25,2004
until to date, the Alliance member Municipalities enforces the
Uniform Fishery Ordinance that signaled its seriousness to
project the entire Alliance, particularly Fisheries Management
assisted by Fisheries Improved for Sustainable Harvest (FISH
Project) implemented by DA-BFAR funded by USAID and managed by
Tetra Tech EM, Incorporated. Other CRM activities such as,
Coastal Zoning, Mangrove Management and Foreshore Land
Management is facilitated thru the technical assistance from
German Development Service (GED) starting 2006 and is now
on-going.
